Recently there were talks between Cricket South Africa and the prolific batsman about a possible return to the national side.

Yesterday, CSA named their squads for the tours to the West Indies and Ireland and they confirmed that De Villiers is no longer in their plans.

"Discussions with AB de Villiers have concluded with the batsman deciding once and for all, that his retirement will remain final," Cricket South Africa said in a press release.

There were hopes that the prolific batsman would come out of international retirement to help boost the Proteas chances for the upcoming ICC T20 World Cup, scheduled to be played in India later in the year.

The Windies and Proteas will play in the first Test at the Darren Sammy Cricket Ground from 10 to 14 June.
