Going to be a pretty evenly matched Test series - Ngidi─── MORGAN PIEK 16:22 Tue, 08 Jun 2021
The Proteas seamer, Lungi Ngidi, is expecting the wicket in St Lucia to offer its own challenges during the Test series against the West Indies.
Following their mandatory isolation, the Proteas have finally managed to get some time in the middle leading into the 1st Test.
The wicket is on a mound, which will make the bowlers run-up a little more challenging.
Ngidi says that the players will have to try and make the conditions work in their favour.
“There has been a bit of bounce and it has been a bit different compared to what people would have thought.
“So, there is a bit of bounce and with the overheads conditions, it changes literally every 30 minutes. “You never know what you're going to get. The one minute it is rain, the next it is scorching hot and then it is windy.
“When it’s overcast you can use it as much as you can with the swing and when it’s hot you can exploit the bounce.”
Ngidi added that the conditions won’t be too foreign to the South African seamers or bowlers.
“When you have Anrich Nortjé running in at 150km per hour and you have Kagiso Rabada running in at 145 to 150km per hour and they make it seam around I think it plays perfectly into our hands.
“Our batsmen are also pretty used to conditions that seam around because they come from SuperSport Park, the Wanderers, and places like that. I think it's probably going to be a pretty evenly matched Test series.”
The 1st Test between the Windies and the Proteas at the Daren Sammy Cricket Ground starts on Thursday afternoon at 16:00.
