The Proteas white-ball captain, Temba Bavuma, has been battling with a hip injury leading into the Test and he is a doubtful starter.

It is almost a given that the former Knights batsman, Keegan Petersen, will be on debut, while Kyle Verreynne of Western Province could slot in for Bavuma.

Elgar told OFM Sport that there is a strong possibility of two debuts.

“I don't think we have an option as all of our back-up batters haven't played yet. So there is a possibility of two guys making their debuts, if Temba is not fit.

“Those are the cards that we have been dealt and the guys are prepared.

“Maybe it's not a bad thing having the youngers guys coming in at the moment because they are hungry.”

The 1st Test at the Daren Sammy Cricket Ground starts at 16:00 this afternoon.
