Markram expects more bounce in Belfast─── MORGAN PIEK 09:35 Thu, 22 Jul 2021
The Proteas will be targeting a series win on Thursday when they face Ireland in the 2nd of three T20 Internationals. The Proteas lead the series 1-0 after winning the 1st T20I by 33 runs at Malahide in Dublin.
For the first time the tour has moved away from the Irish capital city, with the two remaining fixtures to be played in Belfast.
The Proteas batsman, Aidan Markram, feels that the pitch will have more bounce than the one at Malahide.
“It might result in a bit more bounce in the wicket.
“I'm not sure of the pace or how quick it will play, but certainly I think there will be a bit more bounce.
“The facility itself looks good, the outfield looks really quick and is rock hard, so hopefully in the remaining T20 games there will be a lot of runs and good entertaining cricket.”
On Monday the Proteas were well set for a big innings, but another collapse saw South Africa scrambling to post 165/7.
Markram added that it’s their responsibility to make it easier for their teammates at the backend of the innings.
“I don't think we doubt the ability that comes in after the batters, but I think as the main batters, we can take a lot more responsibility and at least have one of us there going into the last overs.
“We've had lots of chats about our finishing and a lot has boiled down to change of conditions in an innings where it became tough to score runs at the backend.
“Having an in batter, especially in those last five overs, may definitely help rectify the problems at the backend.”
Markram added that the pitch in Belfast may have more bounce than the one in Dublin.
The first ball at Stormont will be bowled at 17:00.
