Proteas arrive in Dubai ahead of T20 World Cup─── MORGAN PIEK 08:40 Mon, 04 Oct 2021
The Proteas have arrived in the United Arab Emirates where they will be competing in the 2021 ICC T20 World Cup.
The Proteas will be in quarantine for six days before being able to start training again ahead of their World Cup opener against Australia.
A handful of the Proteas players are still competing in the Indian Premier League which is being played in the UAE as well.
With the IPL the scores in Dubai and Sharjah have been on the low side. The Proteas captain, Temba Bavuma, says he doubts the pitches will get better for batters.
“To be honest, I find it hard to see how the wickets will get better,” said the skipper who has recovered from a fractured finger he sustained in Sri Lanka.
“With so much traffic on those pitches, I don't think there will be much time for them to really prepare those wickets.
“As batters, we can expect to have a tough time on those wickets and I don't see how they will get better.”
South Africa will face Australia in Abu Dhabi on 23 October.
