Warriors crush the Impalas─── MORGAN PIEK 14:18 Tue, 05 Oct 2021
The Warriors are off the mark in Pool D of the CSA T20 Knockout in Kimberley following a massive 120-run victory over the Limpopo Impalas at the Diamond Oval.
The Warriors batted first and scored a massive 243/6 in their allotted 20 overs thanks to 65 by Wihan Lubbe, 59 by Matthew Breetzke and 52 by Jon-Jon Smuts.
The Impalas were restricted to 123/9 in their 20 overs with Malcolm Nofal who scored 38 runs.
Kyle Jacobs was the bowler of the match with his figures of 2/14 in his allotted four overs. His fielding will leave much to be desired after he twice opted to try and catch and easy attempt with one hand, only for fumble the chance.
Lubbe emphasised the importance of a strong partnership with the bat upfront.
“Having nine wickets in the bank with seven or eight overs to go almost allows you to have a dig at the short boundary.
“It gives the guys some time. Jon-Jon came in and it allowed him a little time to settle before he pulled the trigger a little later.
“It's something that we speak about and we feel that if it comes off, it takes the game away completely from the opposing side and that could benefit us going forward.”
The Warriors will wrap up their pool games on Wednesday afternoon when they face the Eastern Cape Iinyathi.
As matters stand, the Warriors top Pool D and are through to the next round, provided they don’t slip up on Thursday.
