The Itec Knights have won the inaugural CSA T20 Knockout by beating the Dolphins by 7 runs in the final at the Diamond Oval in Kimberley.

The Knights were restricted to 176/5 in their innings with Patrick Kruger scoring 61 while the captain Pite van Biljon scored 42.

Van Biljon's innings which included 3 fours and 3 sixes was the momentum shift the Knights needed after finding themselves in a spot of bother at 37/2 at the end of the 5th over.

Daryn Dupavillon was the pick of the Dolphins bowlers with 2/24 in his 4 overs.

The Knights then defended the total by restricting the Dolphins to 196/6 despite a valiant fight by the all-rounder, Jason Smith.

Khaya Zondo top scored for the Dolphins with 43, while Smith was unbeaten on 36.

Migael Pretorius was the pick of the Knights bowlers with 3/30 in his 4 overs, but it was Alfred Mothoa who set the tone with the two important wickets of the captain, Marques Ackerman and then the dangerous Sarel Erwee.

Mothoa, who is known as the Harmison of Hammanskraal ended his 4 overs with figures of 2/27.

The seamer, Nealan van Heerden, was also outstanding in his variation and this put the Dolphins under pressure. His figures were 1/24 in 4 overs.

The Knights captain, Pite van Biljon, lauded his teams work ethic and character following their first win back in orange.

“These guys, they all bought in since the end of last year.

“Through the preseason they bought in. There are some guys that have had some tough things happening at home, and they bought in 100% with their work ethic and compliment.

“I can actually name all the clinchés. What can I can? The credit must go to all of these guys, and the work they put in shows what it means to them.”

The win earns the Knights their first piece of white-ball cricket silverware in 10 seasons. It is also their first T20 title in 15 seasons.
