I don't think you can exactly blame the plan - Bavuma | News Article

The Proteas will be targeting a first win on Tuesday when they come up against the defending champions, the West Indies, in their second game at the ICC T20 World Cup in the UAE and Oman.

On Saturday the Proteas campaign got off to a less than ideal start when they lost to Australia by five wickets.

On the flip side of the coin, the Windies lost by 6 wickets to England after they were bowled out for 55 runs in 14.2.

The Proteas skipper, Temba Bavuma, feels that as a team they need to improve all-round, but more so in the batting department than in bowling or fielding.

“I thought the bowlers bowled quite well. There's no one I can fault today in the bowling.

“If you are selecting six batters with an all-rounder at seven and you are scoring 118, then I don't think you can exactly blame the plan.

“From a batting point of view, we know that there's a lot that we could have done and we will be looking to correct our wrongs in the next game."

“The 118 was definitely not a par score. It's a bit hard for me to say so because we didn't really bat well. Aiden Markram was really the only one who had any score of substance.

“It definitely didn't go according to plan from a batting point of view. I think around 150 to 160 would have been competitive.”

Tuesday’s game at Dubai Sports City gets underway at noon.
