On Tuesday the Proteas got off the mark with a superb eight-wicket win over the champions, the West Indies, in Dubai.

The Proteas batters, Reeza Hendricks, Rassie van der Dussen, and Aidan Markram all played at big hand in chasing down the Windies score of 143 down in 18.2 overs.

Bavuma who was unfortunately run out for two, said they achieved a lot on a tough day.

The skipper conceded that Tuesday was arguably the toughest day yet he has had to endure as the national captain and despite all the off-field drama and he reminded everyone that the team showed a lot of character on the field of play to win what was a very important game at the World Cup.

“I'm just glad that we were about to get into the right frame of mind as a team and play the way we played.

“So, we shouldn't look past our performances as a team. Coming from that first game against Australia which we lost, then coming up against a powerhouse West Indian side and winning the game with eight wickets.

“I don't think that should be taken lightly.”

The Proteas face the qualifiers, Sri Lanka, on Saturday in Sharjah.
