Knights delighted with Delport pick─── MORGAN PIEK 09:56 Wed, 27 Oct 2021
The Itec Knights are delighted after being able to net the destructive KwaZulu-Natal Tuskers batter, Cameron Delport, for the 2022 Mzansi Super League.
The draw for the Division B players was held over the weekend and Delport was the biggest name on offer.
The Knights had the third pick and immediately snatched Delport.
The Knights coach, Allan Donald, told OFM Sport that he couldn't believe their luck.
“We knew that Cameron Delport was going to be picked up by the Rocks or the North West Dragons, and they didn't.
“I was blown away because we were ready to pick Evan Jones.
“Then of course it was a no-brainer to pick Cameron Delport who is a serious cricketer.
“He is a world-class performer who has been around the various leagues for quite some time, and he is very much a like-for-like player for a Rilee Rossouw.”
The Knights' second pick was the Northern Cape Heat captain, Aubrey Swanepoel, who is no stranger to the team. He has previously represented the side, and he is also the cousin of Patrick Kruger, who stared for the team with the bat during the recent T20 Knockout final against the Dolphins.
Swanepoel told OFM Sport that his draft came as a surprise.
“I'm really chuffed to have been picked by the Knights and I'm really looking forward to the MSL T20 next year.
“I wasn't really expecting to get drafted, so that was quite a surprise for me.
“Just to be playing against the Proteas and international players next year is something that I'm really looking forward to.”
The draft for the Proteas and international players is yet to be conducted. The 2022 MSL T20 is expected to get underway in February.
