The Proteas have been beaten Bangladesh by wickets at the ICC T20 World Cup in the UAE and Oman.

Bangladesh was bowled out for just 84 runs in Abu Dhabi thanks to a fiery opening spell by Kagiso Rabada with three wickets, while Anrich Nortje also claimed three scalps.

With 27 runs, Mahedi Hasan, was the top-scorer for the Tigers.

Rabada finished with 3/20 in his allotted four overs and this was a personal best for the strike bowler in T20 International cricket.

Nortje in his turn was in absolute superb form with 3/8 in 3.2 overs. If Nortjé takes a wicket with his first ball against England, or any other team he plays against next, he will record a hat-trick.

The Proteas chased down the target in 13.3 overs, with the captain, Temba Bavuma, scoring 31 not out, while Rassie van der Dussen, scored 22.

The Proteas needed to score their runs within 15 overs in order to up their net run-rate.

Rabada told OFM Sport that the plan was to be ruthless with the ball and to keep applying the pressure in the middle.

“We knew that we got off to a good start and we could sort of sense it.

“It was crucial for us not to take the foot off the pedal and every bowler that came on made sure that they stuck to the game plan.

“That got us to get into an even more powerful position.

“There are always things to look and address, but all-in-all we cannot not be happy with that performance.”

South Africa face the unbeaten England in Sharjah on Saturday in their final Group 1 match.
