The North West Dragons made it two from two at the CSA T20 Challenge in Gqeberha by trashing the Itec Knights on Thursday. The Dragons beat the Knights by 8 wickets at St George’s Park for a bonus point win.

The Knights had bat first and were restricted to 94/9 in their 20 overs.

Patrick Kruger with 20 runs and Jason Raubenheimer with 19 were the only two Knights batters to trouble the scorers.

Three of the players lost their wickets via run-outs.

The left-arm spinner, Senuran Muthusamy, was the pick of the Dragons bowlers with 2/8 in his allotted 4 overs.

The team from Potchefstroom needed just 10.1 overs to chase down the target thanks to 43 runs by Wesley Marshall and an unbeaten 30 by the former Proteas wicketkeeper, Heino Kuhn.

The seamer Gerald Coetzee and the spinner, Gregory Mahlokwana, each bagged one wicket for the Knights.

The Dragons captain, Nicky van der Bergh, said they have to build on their strong start.

“In a congested tournament like this, momentum is a pretty big word and you will hear all teams speak about that quite often.

“Once you have it on your side it is important to run with it. As soon as you lose it, it is pretty tough to get back and you start to scramble for those third and fourth place play-off spots.

“Now that we have it, we just have to keep running with it.”

Van den Bergh broke the curse at St George’s Park by becoming the first captain in ten T20 games to win the toss and the game.

On Saturday the Knights face the Titans, while on Sunday the Dragons will be up against the Rocks.
