That's the South African way - Olivier─── MORGAN PIEK 14:06 Thu, 17 Feb 2022
The Proteas will be targeting early wickets on day two of the 1st Test against New Zealand in Christchurch.
South Africa are under pressure at stumps on day one after being bowled out for 95 runs and trailing the Black Caps by 21 runs.
New Zealand will resume their innings on 116/3 with Henry Nicholls and the South African-born Neil Wagner being the men at the crease.
The Proteas seamer, Duanne Olivier, who took two wickets on day one conceded that as a team they let themselves down and they know how to remedy the situation.
“As a team collective it wasn't our best day at the office, but tomorrow is another day,” said the fiery fast bowler.
“We are still in the game, there is still so much cricket to be played.
“We know what we did wrong and we know where we can improve.”
Olivier added that they will have to show character and there is still a lot of cricket to be played over the course of the next four days.
“As a bowler you always feel frustrated.
“At the end of the day we are a team and the guys don't do it on purpose. It's about how we come back on day two.
“That's the South African way. It's about showing character and coming back.
“There are four days of cricket left and there is a lot of overs still to be bowled and batted.
“It's how we come back and switch on tomorrow. That first hour is going to be key for us.”
Play at the Hagley Oval resumes at midnight.
