Adapting will give the upper hand - Erwee─── MORGAN PIEK 14:54 Wed, 23 Feb 2022
The Proteas are feeling better prepared for conditions in the 2nd Test against New Zealand in Christchurch.
Last week the national men’s team struggled to adapt to the conditions and this was evident during the innings and 276-run defeat to the Blacks Caps in the 1st Test.
The Proteas batter, Sarel Erwee, who scored 10 runs and a duck on debut last week feels that they are much better prepared.
“Not much is going to change for the second Test. If we look at the conditions it seems like it is very similar to last week.
“We've had a nice chat about it and we've prepped really well.
“The last couple of days we've put ourselves under pressure with regards to the conditions and the situations that we might face in the next Test. I think going into this Test we will be well prepped.”
The Dolphins player went on to add that while the toss is always important, the teams adapting quicker will be in the pound seat.
“If you look at the stats of the ground it's not much different. I think those teams that adapt quicker will get the upper hand.
“People might think that if you win the toss and bowl first you will have the upper hand, but the teams that apart quicker and learn from mistakes will be better off.”
Play at the Hagley Oval begins at midnight on Friday.
