The ICC Hall of Fame legend is leaving Free State Cricket Union to take up the position of Fast Bowling Coach for the Bangladesh Cricket Team in preparation for the 2022 World Cup. He will be working along Head Coach Russell Domingo for the next 9 months.

“I set out in 2020 to return to Bloemfontein, my hometown, where I played and won many trophies, with the aim to create something special. I will leave with a heavy heart but the opportunity to work with a big international team cannot be refused. Thank you to Xander Snyders, Johan van Heerden, sponsors and the entire Itec Knights team that allowed me to do that which I love the most, is to create cricketers. You stood by me from a difficult latter of the season to winning the CSA T20 Knock-Out trophy. I will follow the Knights' progress closely and believe JP Triegaardt will continue building talented players when he takes over as Head Coach for the Itec Knights,” said Allan Donald.

Assistant Coach for the Knights JP Trigaardt added: “He is a legend that brought great value to the team but also the province. His experience during tough situations was great lessons learned. It was an honour and privilege to work beside him. I wish him everything of the best for his future endeavours and know he will make a success of it. “

CEO of Free State Cricket Union (FSCU) added: “It is a really sad day for us to learn that Allan Donald has accepted a stint with the Bangladesh cricket team, although we wish him all the best and he has our blessing to go, it was somewhat in the middle of our campaign to ensure that we look after our relegation in futuristic involvement in the Super 8.

“Allan Donald is a true legend - just the professional work ethic that he brought to the team, has made him a phenomenal part of the FSCU set-up. The  most loyal coach, player, and Cheetahs supporter that you will ever find.”

“Allan thank you very much for what you have done for FSCU and for South African cricket we know that you will enjoy your stint with Bangladesh and they can be honoured to have a gentlemen and a cricketer with your knowledge to come and assist them up till the World Cup the end of this year.”
