Titans too strong for Knights─── MORGAN PIEK 08:07 Mon, 28 Mar 2022
The Titans beat the Itec Knights by 32 runs in the CSA One-Day Cup at SuperSport Park in Centurion on Sunday.
The defeat capped off a mixed weekend for the Knights after they beat Western Province by 38 runs at Newlands on Friday evening.
The Titans had a bat first and scored a massive 341/6 in their allotted 50 overs thanks to an outstanding 157 by the Proteas wicketkeeper, Heinrich Klaasen, and 87 by the number three batter, Neil Brand.
Migael Pretorius was the pick of the Knights bowlers with 2/40 in his 10 overs, while the spinner, Jacques Snyman, bagged 2/67 in his allotted overs.
The Knights captain, Pite van Biljon, led the charge for the visitors with 127 not out. The next highest score by the Orange Army was by the Protea, Jacques Snyman, who scored 29.
While Van Biljon played a captains knock to get agonisingly close, he simply ran out of batting partners and the team from Bloemfontein was bowled out for 309 in 44.1 overs.
Brand was the pick of the Titans bowlers with his left-arm spinners with 4/61 in his 10 overs while the seamer, Corbin Bosch, took 4/69 in 9 overs.
The Knights captain, Pite van Biljon, who scored an unbeaten 127 said his team is showing a lot better character and this is also due to the presence of Rilee Rossouw.
“A guy like Rilee Rossouw, the impact he has is immense. Maybe he didn't score the runs we needed today, but the impact he has in the change room and on the field is big.
“We said in the build-up to this match that we all have to strive to have that presence he has on the field.
“Whether he is batting, bowling or fielding - that is a level of intensity we want to get to.
“He is just a massive inspiration in our team and I think that he has been the link of late.”
The Knights next game is on Wednesday when they travel to Gqeberha to face the Warriors at St George's Park.
