We've had an extremely successful summer - Elgar─── MORGAN PIEK 14:03 Mon, 11 Apr 2022
The Proteas beat Bangladesh by 332 runs at Sr George’s Park in Gqeberha on Monday to clinch the two-Test series 2-0.
It was a matter of déjà vu as the spin-twins, Keshav Maharaj and Simon Harmer, took all ten wickets again in the Tiger’s second innings.
With 7/40 in 12 overs, Maharaj, became the first player in the history of cricket to take two consecutive seven-wicket hauls in the fourth innings of Test.
Harmer in his turn returned figures of 3/34 as the visitors were bowled out for 80 runs.
Maharaj was named as the Player of the Test and as the Player of the Series for his outstanding bowling display.
Proteas captain, Dean Elgar, lauded the work that made the summer successful.
With five wins from seven Tests and rising up to second on the World Test Championship standings, the Proteas consider it to have been an extremely successful season, and the captain, Dean Elgar, put this down to the hard work done both on and off the field of play.
“Not a lot of people would have given us those kind of stats at the start of the season, but it is great to have those numbers on our side.
“There is a lot of behind the scenes work that went into this and it didn't just happen by fluke.
“We've had an extremely successful summer, not just as a Test side, but as a cricketing nation.
“We're on the right path and doing things in the correct way from a team point to view.”
The Proteas next assignment will be a tour to England which starts in July.
