The Proteas captain, Dean Elgar, has called on the batting department to come to the party a bit more often going ahead.

The Proteas wrapped up their outstanding summer in Test cricket on Monday with a 332-run victory over Bangladesh in the second Test.

This took the Proteas total to five wins in seven Tests and this has edged South Africa closer to the top of the table and they trail Australia by just 3.58 points.

Elgar said that the batters must start scoring centuries on a more regular basis.

“From a batting point of view - we need to notch up a few hundreds,” said Elgar, whose 227 runs at an average of 56.75 was the most in the series.

“Our senior guys, when we get into those positions, we have to get those three figure scores.

"We know how much it means from a batting point of view and the pressure that it puts on the opposition.

“In saying that - there's a lot to build on. Our batting department is probably one of the negative departments where we haven't been nailing down those hundreds.

“It's one area of focus that we as a group are extremely aware of. We're working bloody hard to get those hundreds.

“It's just a case of trying to work too hard and focus on the moment and not too far ahead.”

The Proteas next series will be in England and this full tour starts with the 1st ODI in Chester-Le-Street on 19 July.
