Markram missed out on playing during the recent tour to India after testing positive for Covid-19.

He was also not selected to play for the Proteas during the incoming tour of Bangladesh to South Africa.

This was due to his Indian Premier League commitments.

Boucher feels that Markram is fresh and ready after some much needed rest.

“A successful Aiden Markram is good for the Proteas set up,” said Boucher.

“He’s played a lot of cricket, so I think everything happens for a reason.

“He didn't play in India and came home, so he had a good bit of time to go back and just reflect on what's been a long season.

“I've had a chat with him. He's worked on a couple of things, so I've got no doubt that he's itching to get out there and to try and score some runs for the Proteas.”

The first ODI between England and South Africa will be played on Tuesday, 19 July at the Riverside Ground in Chester-le-Street.
