Proteas focused on smart cricket─── MORGAN PIEK 13:50 Tue, 16 Aug 2022
The Proteas won’t be focusing too much on the ‘baz-ball’ style of play adopted by England ahead of the 1st Test. For the national side it will be matter of focusing on their own style which that haven’t named.
The three-Test series between England and South Africa gets underway in London on Wednesday.
It's the first time these two nations go head-to-head in England since August 2017 when the English won the series 3-1.
While the changed style of play by the English is the talk of the town, the Proteas coach, Mark Boucher, said they also play attractive cricket.
“I don't think we've given our style of play a name. I know they have a name over here,” said the former Test wicketkeeper Boucher.
“We believe that we play a nice brand of cricket. We've had some tight series where we came out on top and nothing has really changed for us.
“We have processes that we go through to try and get results going our way.
“I've always maintained that you need to be smart - we want to play aggressive cricket, but you have to be smart about it.
“Nothing will change for us. There's always a lot of hype when it comes to England versus South Africa, but in the end it's a game between bat and ball.
“It's about making smart decisions at various stages of the game. We are focused on doing that.”
Play between England and South Africa at Lord’s starts on Wednesday at noon.
