Robinson recalled for 2nd Test─── MORGAN PIEK 14:33 Wed, 24 Aug 2022
England has made just one change to their playing XI for the 2nd Test against the Proteas in Manchester. The all-rounder, Matthew Potts, has been dropped for the Test and replaced by Ollie Robinson.
Robinson comes into the side for what will be his 10th Test.
Robinson's last appearance for England in the five-day format was during the 5th Ashes Test against Australia in Hobart.
The under-fire opening batter, Zak Crawley, has retained his spot at the top of the order despite scoring on 9 and 13 runs during last week's innings and 12 run defeat to South Africa at Lord's.
As an opening batter Crawley only has an average 26.06 runs, but boasts with a highest score of 267 against Pakistan in 2020.
Following the loss at the home of cricket, the coach Brendon McCullum said he will continue to back Crawley.
“What we are asking from him is to try and chase great moments, said the former New Zealand international batter and wicketkeeper.
“He has to try and brace the fact that inconsistency is going to be there because he is that type of player. When gets the opportunity he has to try and win games for England.
“It takes an element of trust in the process - not just from Ben Stokes, myself and the those that are leaders within the side, but also Zak himself.
“He is obviously hurting at the moment, but his time will come.”
Day One at Old Trafford is set to get underway tomorrow at noon.
