Proteas bat first at Old Trafford─── MORGAN PIEK 12:02 Thu, 25 Aug 2022
The Proteas won the toss this morning and elected to have a bat first in the 2nd Test against England being played at Old Trafford.
Unlike last week at Lord’s when Dean Elgar won the toss, they this time opted to invite the English to have a bowl first.
South Africa also made one change to their playing XI with the team opting to play two frontline spinners, with Simon Harmer coming into the mix in the place of the tall left-arm seamer, Marco Jansen.
Elgar said his decision is based on the conditions on offer.
“It's a little bit overcast overhead, but I think that we've got to play with what's in front of us. It looks quite dry - hence we went with the option of an extra spinner in Simon Harmer.
“I guess when it comes to picking two spinners you have to back yourselves and go with the positive nature and bat first.
“Marco Jansen is missing out, so we are pretty excited to have Harmer back. Marco has done absolutely nothing wrong in the previous game. It's just horses for courses.”
South Africa leads the three-Test series 1-0.
