'We understand the weightiness of the season' - Kleinveldt─── MORGAN PIEK 08:34 Thu, 15 Sep 2022
The Itec Knights welcome the challenge that lies ahead in the upcoming domestic cricket season. The 2022/23 campaign will be one where the Knights will have to deliver in order to avoid being relegated to Division 2 next season.
As it stands, the Knights are at the bottom of the log after the previous season, while the North West Dragons and Dolphins will also be under pressure.
The Knights' opening batter, Matthew Kleinveldt, told OFM Sport that the pressure can bring out the best in the team.
“We have a big season ahead of us and we are under a lot of pressure," said the cousin of the former Proteas all-rounder, Rory Kleinveldt.
“As you know, sometimes in sport pressure can produce good quality performance and it's nice to sometimes be in a situation where you are under pressure.
“It pushes you to go outside of your comfort zone and it also pushes you as a professional cricketer.
“Sometimes when we are doing well you are in a comfort zone and that doesn't produce the excellence that we can achieve.
“We are excited but we understand the weightiness of the season and what it means to the union. So yes, we are looking forward to that.”
This Knights' season gets under way against the Warriors on 18 October in the T20 Challenge in Potchefstroom.
