Rossouw wins big at Knights Awards─── MORGAN PIEK 07:03 Fri, 23 Sep 2022
The Proteas batter, Rilee Rossouw, was the big winner on Thursday night during the annual ITEC Knights Awards in Bloemfontein.
Rossouw was named as the Knights Player of the Year, while he also received the accolade for the T20 Player of the Year.
Rossouw was not in attendance as he is with the Proteas who are en route to the subcontinent for their tour of India before going to the ICC T20 World Cup in Australia.
The seamer, Alfred Mothoa, was named as the Knights One-Day Player of the Year, while he was also the Player’s Player of the Year.
Mothoa told OFM Sport that while cricket is a team sport, it is good to get recognition from his peers.
“It's not about being just a player, but it's about being a friend to everyone and helping out where you can.
“It's really not just about the cricket, it's more personal than that. I think the guys feel that I'm the guy they can go to if they need advice or whatever they need.
“It's a team sport, so we help each other out where we can.”
The regular captain, Pite van Biljon, was the 4-Day Player of the Year and Jason Raubenheimer was the Most Improved Player of the Year.
The President’s Award – one of the most prestigious accolades in Free State cricket – was posthumously awarded to the late Judy Vorster. Vorster recently passed away and she will be remembered for her work ethic and for filling various administrative roles for Free State Cricket, which include running women’s cricket.
In her honour, the FSCU also named the scores box the ‘Judy Vorster Scorers' Box’ in order to preserve her legacy at the union. The Free State Women's cricket team will also be dedicating their season to Vorster.
