Cobb to play for Knights in T20 Challenge─── MORGAN PIEK 13:44 Thu, 13 Oct 2022
The English cricketer, Josh Cobb, has been named in the ITEC Knights squad for the upcoming T20 Challenge in Potchefstroom.
The 32-year-old Northamptonshire cricketer is primarily a batter, but is also an useful off-spinner.
With the destructive Rilee Rossouw in Australia for the upcoming ICC T20 World Cup, Cobb's inclusion is a boost the Knights.
Cobb also the captained of the Welsh Fire in the recent The Hundred men’s competition in the United Kingdom.
Knights CEO, Johan van Heerden, told OFM Sport Cobb is a suitable replacement for Rossouw.
“It's absolutely good news for us,” said Van Heerden.
“We were caught a little big off guard with Rilee going to the World Cup as he is not a contracted player with Cricket South Africa. That did influence our plans going forward.
“From all the reports, the best replacement would have been Josh.
“He is one of those players with a strike rate of 168.”
Cobb is en route to South Africa and will be arriving on Friday morning. His father, Russell Cobb, was also a first-class cricketer and played in South Africa as well for the then Northern Transvaal (Titans).
The Knights face the Warriors at 14:30 on Tuesday in Potchefstroom in their T20 Challenge opener.
