Batting gives Proteas renewed confidence─── MORGAN PIEK 13:19 Mon, 31 Oct 2022
The Proteas have a renewed sense of confidence at the ICC T20 World Cup in Australia after beating India by 5 wickets on Sunday, and this has also come as the batters are playing their part of the willow of late.
The solid win over the team from the subcontinent in Perth on Sunday means that South Africa is the only remaining unbeaten team in Group 2 of the tournament Down Under.
The Proteas batters have been struggling with form throughout the season, but they have come right at just the right moment.
Next up for the Proteas will be Pakistan, and a win will certainly increase their chances of advancing.
Aiden Markram, who scored 52 on Sunday, said they are confident as a batting unit.
“It definitely helps in a format like this where you have to take risks and play a positive brand of cricket,” said the player who captained South Africa to the U19 World Cup title in 2014.
“It certainly helps when your batters are or seem to be in form.
“Against India, it felt like I was far from being in form, but I suppose you do get wickets like that. I guess it is just about finding a way.
“It does definitely help and it does free us up a bit, and hopefully all the batters can take confidence from that going forward.”
Thursday's match at the Sydney Cricket Ground gets under way at 10:00.
