The Warriors and the Lions came out on top on Sunday in the latest round of the Cricket South Africa (CSA) 4-Day Domestic Series.

The Warriors claimed a 69-run win against the Dolphins at St George’s Park, while the Lions won by 123 runs against the North West Dragons.

The Lions set a target of 396 runs before holding the Dragons to 273 all out. Delano Potgieter’s unbeaten 81*off 111 and a half-century from Wesley Marshall (56 off 177) were not enough as the Johannesburg-based side claimed victory in their opening game of the series.

Sisanda Magala did the most damage, returning 4/34 in 16 overs, with the support of Bjorn Fortuin (2/51), and Lutho Sipamla (2/54), who claimed two wickets each.

Meanwhile, the Warriors only posted 166 runs in their first innings but made a comeback to score 390 in the second innings to take the lead in Gqeberha.

Beyers Swanepoel (4/28 in 15.4 overs), led the charge for the home side with four scalps after the dismissals of openers, Grant Roelofsen for none and Sarel Erwee (28). Swanepoel returned for Daryn Dupavillon for one and Ottniel Baartman for none and the Dolphins were bowled out for 202 runs, 69 runs short of the target. Notable contributions were in the thirties from Jason Smith (37), Marques Ackerman (36), and Khaya Zondo (31).

In Division Two, the Tuskers and the Northern Cape Heat shared the spoils in a rain interrupted encounter in Pietermaritzburg.

The Garden Route Badgers secured a massive innings and 106 runs in Oudtshoorn and the Eastern Cape Iinyathi won by 141 runs.
