Free State Cricket CEO hails Bloemfontein for tremendous ODIs─── MORGAN PIEK 12:02 Wed, 01 Feb 2023
The Free State Cricket Union is overjoyed with the tremendous success of the first two One-Day Internationals in Bloemfontein on the weekend.
The Proteas claimed a historic series win against England with a 27-run win on Friday and a five-wicket victory on Sunday.
This was the first time the Proteas managed to beat the World Champions at the Mangaung Oval.
The CEO of Free State Cricket, Johan van Heerden, told OFM Sport that the supporters made it a great success.
“Congratulations Bloemfontein, these ODIs were absolutely an event that I think each and everyone in the city can be very proud of,” said the former Free State captain.
“Thank you for the turnout, thank you for the way you behaved, the way we enjoyed the cricket which was broadcast to 152 counties across the world - I'm sure that if there were people that still didn't know where Bloem is, they will definitely want to come and visit it.
“We have done great and it is our sincere thanks to all of you that have made this event so special.”
While the next ODI in Bloemfontein is not set in stone yet, it is believed that Bloemfontein will be one of the host cities for the 2027 ICC Cricket World Cup that will be co-hosted by South Africa, Namibia, and Zimbabwe.
