He states that: “We have enough experience and most of the players that are in the squad have been to the World Cup. They know what is required going forward.”

With the upcoming World Cup, Moreeng says they want to give themselves the best chance as it is an advantage to them because they are playing at home and they are comfortable with the environment. 

“The first hurdle for us is to make sure we get through the group stages and get ourselves in the knockout stages. Then we can take it from there,” said Bloemfontein coach.

With every game that they’ve had, the World Cup has always been in the picture, he noted. “For us, it goes without saying that, if you are playing at home, you have an opportunity to win a World Cup in front of your home supporters, that is what every player in the squad has been speaking about for the last year and a half.”

The question that occurred mostly in the press conference on Wednesday, was about the all-rounder, Dané van Niekerk, who failed to meet the team’s minimum physical requirements. 

Moreen added that: “It has been tough, but at the end of the day, we as a team need to move on and we know we have a final that we need to focus on tomorrow.”

The Proteas and ever-tricky India will go head-to-head on Thursday afternoon in East London in the final of the T20 Tri-Series. This game at Buffalo Park is scheduled to start at 15:00.

The Women's T20 World Cup will get under way on 10 February at the iconic Newlands in Cape Town when they face Sri Lanka.
