Kapp committed to playing in the T20 World Cup─── MORGAN PIEK 14:14 Thu, 02 Feb 2023
The Proteas Women’s coach, Hilton Moreeng, has confirmed that the all-rounder, Marizanne Kapp, is still available to play in the upcoming ICC T20 World Cup that gets under way in South Africa next week.
Kapp was granted compassionate leave and is not involved in the T20 Women’s Tri-series final between South Africa and India (this final gets under way at 15:00 on Thursday afternoon).
Kapp has returned to be with her wife, Dané van Niekerk, who was omitted from the Proteas squad for the World Cup. According to Cricket South Africa, Van Niekerk was excluded based on not being able to meet the minimum fitness requirements.
Moreeng said that Kapp is still a part of their plans for the World Cup.
“She is part of the World Cup - she is committed to the World Cup cause,” said Moreeng.
“She needed a break for compassionate leave and it was granted to her because we felt we are very happy with the form she is in, as far as her skills are considered.
“The leave was granted to her so she can come back ready to play.”
The Proteas will face Sri Lanka at Newlands next week Saturday in the opening match of the T20 World Cup.
