Conrad makes changes for 2nd Test─── MORGAN PIEK 14:15 Tue, 07 Mar 2023
The Proteas coach, Shukri Conrad, has indicated that there will be changes to his playing XI for the second Test against the West Indies that starts in Johannesburg on Wednesday.
Ryan Rickelton is expected to play in the Test, as well as the all-rounder, Wiaan Mulder and the spin duo Keshav Maharaj and Simon Harmer.
Rickelton will come into the side at the expense of the former Knights batter, Keegan Petersen.
Conrad said that Rickelton deserves a crack at his home field.
“I still feel that going forward, Keegan has a role to play in the middle-order rather than in the top-order.
“Rickelton deserves his crack and as everyone knows, he has been churning it out.
“We went with Keegan in the first Test because he was the incumbent.
“Him being left out is not on the back of shall we say two non-scoring performances, rather than poor performances.”
South Africa leads the series one-nil and play at the Bullring is scheduled to get underway on Wednesday morning at 10:00.
Proteas playing XI - Dean Elgar, Aiden Markram, Tony de Zorzi, Temba Bavuma (captain), Ryan Rickelton, Heinrich Klaasen (wicketkeeper), Wiaan Mulder, Keshav Maharaj, Simon Harmer, Gerald Coetzee, Kagiso Rabada.
