Going back-to-back is fantastic - Charlton─── MORGAN PIEK 08:07 Thu, 16 Mar 2023
The Northern Cape Heat coach, Mark Charlton, is delighted with his team’s effort after winning the CSA 4-Day Division 2 title for a second year running, albeit they fell just short of gaining promotion to Division 1.
The Heat won the series after finishing with 113.54 points after six matches.
They went through the series unbeaten with three wins, while three of those games ended in draws.
While the Heat was the team tipped to gain promotion to Division 1, they were edged by the KZN Tuskers.
Charlton told OFM Sport he was happy they were able to defend their 4-Day title.
"It's been another fantastic season for the Heat as we won the 4-Day series again after winning it last year," said the astute coach.
"Going back-to-back is fantastic and we at Northern Cape Cricket are very proud of the team and it's been a really good two years for us.
"It was a good season as we made the final of the T20 competition as well."
Charlton singled out the two players he felt had the biggest impact on the team, with them being the batter, Rivaldo Moonsamy, and the captain, Ernest Kemm.
Moonsamy was the leading run-scorer in the competition with 591-runs in nine innings, while Ernest Kemm was the runner-up with the bat with 475 runs.
Charlton told OFM Sport that the pair deserve a lot of credit for their success.
"Congratulations need to go out to Rivaldo Moonsamy, who was superb in the 4-day competition. He picked up three centuries and he also scored the 7th fastest hundred in South African first-class history.
"There is also the captain, Ernest Kemm, who has been unbelievable with the bat and ball. He scored hundreds and fifties and took five-wicket hauls weekly.
"Those guys have to take a lot of the credit as well."
The Heat have already started their contract negotiations for the 2023/24 domestic season.
