On Sunday, South Africa 'A' beat Sri Lanka 'A' by four wickets in Kandy during the first one-day match between the two teams.

Sri Lanka scored 264/8 in their 50 overs with Janith Liyanage scoring 76 not out.

It was, however, the teenager Brevis that stole the show with unbeaten 98 runs. South Africa scored the winning runs in 41.1 overs.

The former Free State and Northern Cape Heat all-rounder, Beyers Swanepoel, contributed with 43 not out.

The young Brevis said Swanepoel took a lot of pressure off of him with the bat and they gelled well together at the crease to take it across the line for South Africa.

“I all started in the morning with the bowlers,” said the young and destructive batter.

“They really bowled well and everyone also fielded well. It was a collective team effort.

“It's my first time here in Sri Lanka and I really enjoyed it. There was a bit of pressure when I came in but I knew that we had an alright start and I just told myself to bat long.

“I knew that there was going to be a lot of spin, so I prepared for that and I just tried to pace it.

“We spoke about the spinners searching for it a bit more, and that naturally leads to a few bad balls, and they came.

“When Beyers came in he batted beautifully, which took a lot of pressure off of me. We played a good role together to take it over the line for the team.”

The second match will be played on Sunday in Pallekele.
