Jansen credits players for CSA Award nomination─── MORGAN PIEK 07:58 Thu, 22 Jun 2023
The Free State Women’s cricket coach, PJ Jansen, is over the moon with his nomination for a Cricket South Africa award.
Jansen was shortlisted for the Provincial Women’s Coach of the Year along with Claire Terblanche of Western Province and Martlize van der Merwe of the Garden Route Badgers.
Earlier in the year Jansen guided the Free State women’s team to promotion to the first division for the first time.
Since then, he has been invited to coach at the National Academy as well.
Jansen told OFM Sport a lot of the credit must go to the ladies that made it all happen on the field.
“As coaches we always work towards certain goals - the goals are always to better our players and achieve the objectives,” said Jansen.
“At the end of the day we also get nominated from these accolades and I cannot take that away from my team.
“They helped me get to the position where I am and I need to give thanks to them as well for putting in the hard work and making things easier for me.”
In total, Free State Cricket received six nominations which includes Gerald Coetzee for the International Newcomer of the Year and Rilee Rossouw for the T20 International Player of the Year.
The Mangaung Oval is up for the Stadium of the Year award against the Wanderers and SuperSport Park.
Betty Mofokeng is in line for the KFC Bucket Loads of Good award (administrator), while Stephen Harris is up for the Umpire’s Umpire of the Year award.
The 2023 CSA Awards function will take place on 7 July in Midrand.
