Marsh leads the charge for Australia, Wood fires for England─── MORGAN PIEK 07:37 Fri, 07 Jul 2023
It was another dramatic day in the Ashes on day one of the 3rd Test between England and Australia at Headingley on Thursday.
A total of 13 wickets tumbled in the important Test for both sides – as England are hunting for a first win, while Australia can win a first away Ashes series since 2001.
Australia had a bat first and were bowled out for just 262-runs, with Mitchell Marsh scoring 118-runs, while for the English the seamer Mark Wood starred with the ball with 5/34 in 11.4 overs.
At the close of play, England were in a spot of bother on 68/3.
Speaking about his innings, Marsh said it's always special to play in and score a ton in the Ashes.
“Ashes cricket is always something as a young kid you want to play in,” he the son of the former Australian opening batter Geoff Marsh.
“Coming in before lunch it was probably some of the toughest conditions I've come in, in my Test career so far.
“I’m really proud of the work that I've done mentally to be able to overcome nerves and get into the contest as quickly as I possibly can. I think that comes with a bit of age, bit of growth and probably a bit of time away from the game to work on certain things.”
Play in Leeds is set to resume at noon with Joe Root and Jonny Bairstow the men at the crease for England.
