The Proteas will be banking on their good form in Bloemfontein of late when they face Australia on Thursday in the first One-Day International.

The last time they faced Australia in Bloemfontein was in 2020 when they won by six-wickets, while earlier in their year they beat the reigning World Champions, England in back-to-back games.

Australia do however take some confidence into the series following their 3-0 whitewash in the T20 International series in Durban last week.

The Proteas captain, Temba Bavuma, said it’s all about confidence.

“We reminded ourselves in terms of the kind of cricket that we want to play and all the good moments that we had this year as a team,” said the skipper.

“I guess the challenge is for us to go out there and match all of those performances and the intensity as well as the style of play as a team.

“We haven't played as a team, but the responsibility is still there.

“You look at the good times and you try to replicate that. Especially as a batter they are not as frequent as you'd like.

“We've got good memories playing in Bloemfontein and we look forward to what could potentially come within the next two games in Bloem.

The first ODI gets underway on Thursday afternoon at 13:00.
