Knights hammered in One-Day Cup final─── MORGAN PIEK 16:21 Fri, 20 Oct 2023
The South African Emerging side won the Division 2 final of the One-Day Cup by hammering the ITEC Knights by eight wickets in Bloemfontein on Friday.
The Knights had a bat first at the Mangaung Oval and got off to a good start with the opening batters Garnett Tarr and Jacques Snyman getting off to a good start with a 110 partnership for the first wicket.
Snyman, who made his return from a concussion scored 60-runs before being dismissed.
Tarr in turn top-scored for the Knights with 105-runs for back-to-back centuries in the competition and it was also his third three-figure score for the tournament.
Tarrr finished as the tournament's leading run-scorer with 597-runs in eight innings.
The allrounder, Dian Forrester with 45 and Patrick Botha with 14 were the only other batters to reach double-figures as the Knights limped to 276-runs all out in 45 overs on what was a very good batting wicket.
The spinner, Junaid Dawood, was the pick of the SA Emerging bowlers with 4/60 in his 10-overs, while the seamer Codi Yusuf took 3/46 in 8.2 overs.
In reply, David Teeger smashed 95 not out off 70 balls, while Lhuan-dre Pretorius struck 76 of 67 balls and Ethan Cunningham scored 55 off 32 balls as the visitors reached the target in 32.3 overs.
Snyman and Nipho Mpungose each took a wicket for the Knights.
The Knights will be very disappointed in the way in which they signed off their campaign after going through the entire tournament unbeaten, only to stumble in the final and to be denied the silverware.
