Proteas geared for England and Stokes─── MORGAN PIEK 08:47 Sat, 21 Oct 2023
“We’ve obviously got the challenge of England starting and we are, I guess preparing to get ourselves in the right mental state, physically as well, to play our best cricket there.”
The Proteas will be looking to up their intensity on Saturday when they face England in Mumbai in the ICC Cricket World Cup being played in India.
The Proteas will want to get their campaign back on track following the disappointing defeat to the Netherlands in Dharamsala on Tuesday.
The defending champions, England in turn are under a lot of pressure to earn a win after two defeats, while they have tough games lying ahead against India, Australia and Pakistan as well.
The Proteas captain, Temba Bavuma, said they have progressed from their shock defeat to the Netherlands and they are tuned in for the England game.
“I do think it's progressed. We've had hard conversations as a team, obviously looking at our performances and where things went bad for us from a batting, bowling, even from a fielding point of view. We've put that behind us.
“We’ve obviously got the challenge of England starting and we are, I guess preparing to get ourselves in the right mental state, physically as well, to play our best cricket there.”
The English are set to play their talisman allrounder, Ben Stokes, as they are desperate to their campaign back on track.
Bavuma added that Stokes is a dangerous player, but they have prepared for what challenges he may pose.
“I think a fully fit Ben Stokes obviously does strengthen the England team - he is an x-factor player.
“He is the guy that can change the course of the game. He's someone that we've covered in our preparation. We know we're going to have to be at the top of our game to get him unstuck.
“We have a lot of respect for him, Ben Stokes. We know what he can do, but we'll prepare for him as well as we can.”
Play in Mumbai is scheduled to get underway on Satruday morning at 10:30.
