Keshav Maharaj - Cricinfo

“Peaking is I suppose, a result of playing good cricket. If we're going into each game trying to play good cricket, then we can see where it gets us.”

The Proteas will be in action at the ICC Cricket World Cup in India again tomorrow and it will be a couple of tough days that lie ahead.

It’s a short turnaround for the national side as just on Tuesday they played against Bangladesh in Mumbai in a game that they won by 149-runs.

Wednesday was the Proteas travel day as they flew to Chennai where they will go up against the top-ranked Pakistan tomorrow.

In addition to Pakistan, the Proteas will also have games coming up against the Black Caps of New Zealand and the hosts, India.

The Proteas are in really good form at the moment and as strong contenders for the semi-finals, but they still need some positive results.

Aiden Markram - Cricinfo

The Proteas stand-in captain, Aiden Markram, said as a collective the need to back up their past performances.

“Peaking is I suppose, a result of playing good cricket. If we're going into each game trying to play good cricket, then we can see where it gets us.

“But the things that we've been doing well, we’ve put a lot of emphasis on those things and those sorts of processes, for lack of a better word. I know that word is thrown around quite a bit, but that really is what it is.

“Like I've mentioned, for us as a batting unit, even as a bowling unit, we try to take really good options out there and make good decisions and if those options speak to the conditions, we feel like we'll be in the game. If we can do that for long periods of time and move forward each game then we hope it puts us in a good position.”

This game will get underway at 10:30  on Friday morning.

Moeen Ali - Cricinfo

Meanwhile, the defending champions England will be in action for the first time since their massive 229-run drubbing at the hands of South Africa in Mumbai.

The English will face Sri Lanka in Bengaluru today and they can ill afford another defeat or their title defence may just come to a grinding halt.

Sri Lanka haven’t really performed at the World Cup either and they too will be under pressure.

The England allrounder, Moeen Ali, said it’s imperative that they make a big step-up.

“We're obviously disappointed from the result and not just the result but the way we played so but, in the competition, you've got to move on as quick as you can and regroup.

“Everything is a must-win and we know we've been in this position before, probably not to this degree, but we know everything is a must-win and we have to get our confidence and perform well and bat and bowl and field better than we have done so far in this tournament.

Play in Bengaluru gets underway on Thursday morning at 10:30.

Glenn Maxwell - Cricinfo

In Wednesday’s game the five-time champions, Australia demolished the Netherlands by a whopping 309-runs.

Glenn Maxwell broke Aiden Markram’s record for the fastest World Cup century as his 106 and David Warner’s 104 led the Aussies to 399/8.

The spinner, Adam Zampa, took 4/8 in 3 overs as the Dutch were bundled out for a mere 90-runs in 21 overs.
