Proteas prepared to fight in Kimberley─── MORGAN PIEK 14:24 Fri, 08 Dec 2023
“It’s disappointing to not to be in a position where we can win the series with the rain, but it is what it is and I think we will definitely fight to the end in that last game.”
The Proteas Women and Bangladesh will go head-to-head in Kimberley this on Friday evening in the third and final T20 International.
Bangladesh will be targeting a series victory after winning the first game by 13-runs in Benoni on Saturday.
Wednesdays washed out game in the Diamond City has put South Africa out of contention to win the three-match series, however, they will look to draw level.
The return of their captain, Laura Wolvaardt, from the Big Bash League in Australia is a major boost both in the batting upfront and in the leadership.
Wolvaardt said it’s a pity that they cannot win the series anymore, but they won’t go down without a fight.
“We weren’t really at our best in all three departments, having looked at some of the footage,” said Wolvaardt.
“There’s a lot of discussions that we had about areas that we can tighten up on, both with the bat and the ball, and in the field as well.
“In saying that, I do think that there were a lot of positives in the game such as the way Anneke Bosch and Tazmin Brits started with the bat against spin was really good. I think it’s just doing the better things for longer.
“It’s disappointing to not to be in a position where we can win the series with the rain, but it is what it is and I think we will definitely fight to the end in that last game.
“We definitely wouldn’t want to come away with a loss. A draw sounds a lot better, so we’ll be reviewing our plans, and hopefully we can walk away with a win.”
Play at the Diamond Oval is scheduled to get underway at 18:00.
