Proteas square T20 International series against Bangladesh One-All─── KAYLA BARKER 13:00 Sat, 09 Dec 2023
The Proteas Women and Bangladesh went head-to-head in Kimberley on Friday in the third and final T20 International. The Proteas squared the T20I series against one-all as they won the third and final match at the Diamond Oval by eight wickets.
Bangladesh won the first game by 13-runs in Benoni on Saturday and with Wednesday’s washed out game in the Diamond City, yesterday’s win for South Africa may not have meant a series victory, but it does draw level.
South Africa won the toss and elected to bowl. Bangladesh took to the bat and only managed 94/6 in their allotted overs.
The Proteas put together 95/2 in 15 overs and won the third T20I by 8 wickets.
The return of Proteas captain, Laura Wolvaardt, from the Big Bash League in Australia was a major boost for the side as she led strongly in yesterday's victory. Scoring 49 not out alongside Sune Luus’ 15 not out, the Proteas climbed well to the winning 95 runs.
Ayanda Hlubi, took 2/15 on debut for South Africa and managed to be named player of the match.
Supersport reported Wolvaardt’s post-match comments, saying she was satisfied with the victory.
“I thought the bowlers were excellent today, they set up the victory very well. Today Ayanda was brilliant up front and set things up well for us. It was very special to have a debut like that. It wasn’t the easiest wicket to bat on. I was just trying to stay in there and I was glad to get some runs today, especially with the one day matches coming up.”
Next on the agenda is the ODI Series with the first game taking place at Buffalo Park in East London on Saturday 16 December at 14:00, the second on Wednesday 20 December at the JB Marks Oval in Potchefstroom also at 14:00. The series will conclude on Saturday 23 December at Willowmoore Park in Benoni with another 14:00 game.
