Today’s fixture will be the sixth meeting between the sides since their initial clash at the ground 31 years ago.  The Proteas will be looking for a way to combat India’s excellent bowling after the visitors won by eight wickets in the first ODI at the Wanderers in Johannesburg on Sunday.  Batting coach JP Duminy says the Proteas must improve their batting execution.

“Our execution certainly wasn’t there, the intent to score was certainly there.  Something we need to reflect on is understanding our options on those conditions. When the conditions are good, we can score 400, but how do we still find our way to 280 on a tough wicket. That’s the journey for us,” he said.

Despite the Proteas suffering a fourth straight ODI defeat to India since October lasts year, Duminy insists the national squad have not developed a mental block against India.

The Proteas need to win today to level the series.  The third and final ODI will be played in Paarl on Thursday.
