Central South Africans urged to support Under19's in ICC Cricket World Cup─── 08:48 Thu, 18 Jan 2024
North-West Cricket has urged fans to come out in their numbers for the upcoming ICC U19 Men's Cricket World Cup which gets underway tomorrow.
Potchefstroom will play host to the exciting Group B for the tournament which features South Africa, as well as England, Scotland, and the West Indies.
The action starts tomorrow morning with the Junior Proteas up against the Windies, while on Saturday the English will battle it out against their traditional rivals, the Scottish.
The CEO of North-West Cricket, Ismail Minty, told OFM Sport that the stars of tomorrow will be in action.
“We urge the spectators to come and watch our future Proteas. They are the future stars, they are the future players that will represent South Africa at the next World Cup, which will be held in South Africa in 2027. We urge everybody to come in with their families and let us support our local boys,” he said.
Meanwhile, there has been a lot of negative noise around the South African camp leading into the tournament and this has mainly been due to the David Teeger-saga.
South Africa are targeting just their second ever title, but first they will have to navigate their Group B games that will be against the West Indies, England and Scotland. The recently appointed Junior Proteas skipper, Juan James, said they have what it takes to win the World Cup.
“I think it’s the fact that we never give up in tough situations. There have been countless times where we have been in difficult situations, but we showed resilience and pushed through. Obviously, we would like to win the World Cup, that’s the goal,” he said.
Tomorrow at 10:00, South Africa will face the Windies at the JB Marks Oval.
