The Proteas will want to prove their critics wrong during the two-Test series against the Black Caps in New Zealand.

On Friday a heavily understrength Proteas team without the likes of Aiden Markram, Kagiso Rabada and Rassie van der Dussen flew to New Zealand.

Eight players on tour have never represented South Africa in a Test, however, they are very experienced at first-class level.

The former Knights batter, Keegan Petersen, who has played in 12 Tests, said they are good enough to do the job in New Zealand, while feeling that they are players are being disrespected.

“To a certain extent yes, I do believe that the team going to New Zealand is competent and good enough,” said the top-order batter.

“Everyone has been around the first-class circuit and has proved their worth, so I think the selected team can do the job.

“Fortunately, we've had an A-side tour against the West Indies where we played together. I was quite nice as the team gelled almost instantly.”

The 1st Test in Mount Maunganui will get underway on 4 February.
