The Blacks Caps will be confident of a 2-0 Test series victory against the Proteas heading into day four in Hamilton.

The Black Caps of New Zealand will need another 227-runs in their second innings of the 2nd Test against South Africa in Hamilton to clinch a series whitewash.

At the close of play on day three, the hosts were on 40/1 after 13.5 overs.

The Proteas go their second innings underway at the start of day three with a 31-run lead, but they were bowled out for 235-runs.

The Western Province batter David Bedingham scored almost half of South Africa's runs with a knock of 110 for his maiden Test century. He stuck 12 fours and hit two sixes in his innings.

The former Knights player, Keegan Petersen, scored a patient 43-runs which included six fours, while the captain, Neil Brand's 34 was the only other knock in the innings that was above 20.

Apart from Zubayr Hamza's 17, no other batter managed to reach double-figures.

The 22-year-old New Zealand seamer, William O’Rourke, who is on debut, was the pick of the Kiwi bowlers with a fine 5/34 in 13.5 overs, while Glen Phillips took 2/50 in 15.

The New Zealand openers Tom Latham with 21 and the South African-born Devon Conway their side off to reasonable start with the bat in their second innings with a stand of 40.

With the penultimate ball of the days play, the Knights spinner, Dane Piedt, made the breakthrough by trapping Conway lbw with an absolute plumb delivery from around the wicket.

This was the final action on day three. While New Zealand are in the pound seats this wicket would no doubt have given South Africa a bit of confidence and the belief that they can roll the hosts over for a second time.

Day four at Seddon Park will get underway at 00:00.
