England's leading wicket taker James Anderson announces retirement─── 18:19 Sat, 11 May 2024
England’s leading wicket taker James Anderson has confirmed he will retire from Test cricket this summer.
The 41-year old Anderson is also third on the all-time list of wicket-takers in Tests behind spinners Muttiah Muralitharan of Sri Lanka and Australia’s Shane Warne.
Anderson told the BBC the first Test against the West Indies at Lord’s on the 10th of July will be his lasts.
“I’m going to miss walking out for England so much,” he said, “But I know the time is right to step aside and let others realise their dreams just like I got to, because there is no greater feeling.”
Anderson holds the record for the most Tests played by any English cricketer and only India’s Sachin Tendulkar has played more tests for his country. He has overtaken Sir Ian Botham as England’s leading Test-wicket taker in 2015 and surpassed Australia Glenn McGrath’s record among pace bowlers in 2018.
