KG fit and ready for T20 World Cup─── MORGAN PIEK 13:27 Sat, 01 Jun 2024
“KG is absolutely fine and he bowled really well in the practices we've had. We had a simulation in the middle of the other day, and he was particularly good. We worked through the various phases of the match.”
The Proteas fast bowler, Kagiso Rabada, is fit and ready to play in the ICC T20 World Cup in the USA and West Indies which starts on the weekend.
The seasoned seamer recently returned to South Africa from the Indian Premier League due to a lower limb soft tissue infection.
While there was a concern that the experienced player may miss the T20 World Cup, he has been given a clean bill of health and according to the Proteas bowling coach, he is looking sharp.
Simons told OFM Sport that Rabada looked good during their intrasquad warm-up game in Florida and they have high expectations of him.
“KG is absolutely fine and he bowled really well in the practices we've had,” said Simons.
“We had a simulation in the middle of the other day, and he was particularly good. We worked through the various phases of the match.
“We really want to be as consistent as we can be around where guys operate and become good at that section of the game.
“He was particularly good, so there's no issue with him whatsoever. He's bowling with good pace and good control.”
The T20 World Cup will get underway on Sunday at 2:30 when the co-hosts America face Canada in Dallas, Texas.
On Monday the Proteas will open their account against Sri Lanka at the Nassau County Stadium in New York.
The first ball is set to be bowled at 16:30.
