Family reasons behind Charlton’s shock exit─── MORGAN PIEK 08:00 Wed, 21 Aug 2024
“This is a family move – going to the Eastern Cape. It comes at the right time. I’m excited to work with the Warriors, who have put together a really good squad."
Family reasons are behind Mark Charlton’s shock decision to step down as the head coach of the Northern Cape Heat. This comes just over a month before the start of the 2024/25 domestic cricket season where the Heat will once again be competing in Division 2.
Charlton’s influence at Northern Cape Cricket is undeniable and during his tenure has been nominated as the Division 2 Coach of the Year for three consecutive seasons.
Charlton said after a few good years in Kimberley it’s time to move on.
“It was a fantastic time in the Northern Cape. We had a successful few years over there. They were absolutely brilliant to me in terms of support for me and support for the team. I am really going to miss my time at Northern Cape,” Charlton told Club Cricket SA.

“I am sure I will learn a lot from working alongside Robin. I am looking forward to working with a team I am very passionate about.”

Charlton will be an assistant coach to the former Knights and Proteas spinner Robin Peterson at the Warriors.
Northern Cape Cricket has appointed Charlton’s former assistant Deon Carolus as the new head coach, while the destructive former Proteas and Eagles batter, Loots Bosman, as well as Roy Adams will be his assistants.
