“He’s in line to be picked for the Proteas. If I was a Proteas coach now, I would give him that opportunity. He’s in the right mindset and mentally he is very strong.”

The Knights coach, JP Triegaardt, believes that the new batter Lesego Senokwane has what it takes to play at the highest level.

Senokwane joined the Knights from the North West Dragons during the offseason and on Saturday he made his debut against his former team in the CSA T20 Challenge.

Senokwane showed a lot of class during his knock of 39 runs and he nearly managed to get the Knights across the line at the Mangaung Oval.

During the offseason the player represented the Emerging South Africa team in Zimbabwe and he excelled in all formats in Bulawayo. During the second unofficial Test at the Queens Sport Club, he impressed with 280-runs in an innings that included 29 fours.

Triegaardt told OFM Sport that the batter is a player that really excites him.

“We’re also very pleased to have him here with us,” said Triegaardt. “He’s in line to be picked for the Proteas. If I was a Proteas coach now, I would give him that opportunity.

“He’s in the right mindset and mentally he is very strong. I am really surprised at how mentally strong he is.

“I mean what he brings to the team is the stability in the batting lineup and that is something that we’ve actually needed up front. I’m really grateful to have him, but also, he is a very decent human being.”

Meanwhile, the Knights will face the Boland in Paarl of Friday in their next game.
