The Proteas Women will be aiming to seal a series victory on Tuesday when they take on the West Indies in the third and final One-Day International, to be played in Barbados.

The series is currently level at one-all after the Windies claimed a four-wicket win in the opening match via the Duckworth-Lewis-Stern method, while South Africa bounced back on Saturday with a sensational 40-run victory.

It all comes down to Tuesday’s decider, and both sides will have plenty to play for, particularly with the 2025 ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup set to get underway in India this September.

This is likely to be South Africa’s final 50-over match before the global showpiece, and serious questions must be asked as to why the team has had so little game time in a World Cup year.

South Africa will draw plenty of confidence from Saturday’s record-breaking performance. All-rounder Nondumiso Shangase, who scored a career-best 55, said the team is staying grounded but focused on the task ahead.

“I wouldn’t say we’re overly happy or too down, you know,” said the 29-year-old.

“We need to celebrate that victory – it was a good one – but at the same time, we know what’s at stake and we’re ready for Tuesday.

“It’s all about the performance. We just need to give our best again to make sure we get over the line.”

Shangase added that the team watched the conclusion of the men’s World Test Championship final on Saturday, where South Africa beat Australia in a historic win.

“Yes, we were inspired, and we were definitely watching,” she said.

“We even missed breakfast that day because of the match – we said, ‘No ways, we can’t miss this!’ We watched every run. It really inspired us.”

Play between the West Indies and South Africa at the Three W’s Oval is scheduled to start at 16:00.
